And in just three months, we turned a connectivity dead zone into one of the smartest safety corridors in the city.

🚦 The Challenge: Growing Risk, No Existing Infrastructure

The Coffee Plant and Ironworks corridor was facing serious threats: fatal rail-crossing incidents, growing vandalism, and near-constant congestion for pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency vehicles. The area had no fiber, no backhaul, and high RF interference due to surrounding light rail and commercial density.

Even worse, the existing infrastructure simply wasn’t built for today’s mobility needs. The District needed high-performance connectivity—and intelligent eyes on the street.

Teksys partnered with Altowav, Bosch, and Genetec to design a multi-layered safety solution that tackled the problem from every angle:

🔹 Wireless Connectivity

We deployed 10 Altowav K60 60GHz radios to deliver ultra-fast, low-latency backhaul without trenching fiber. These radios thrive in dense RF environments and were mounted quickly at key intersections.

🔹 Smart Surveillance

We integrated AI-enhanced Bosch FLEXIDOME® and DINION® cameras alongside Genetec AutoVu® license plate readers—providing high-resolution visibility across roadways, crossings, and sidewalks.

🔹 Real-Time Video Analytics

All video feeds are centralized through Genetec Security Center, where IVA Pro Traffic and AutoVu analytics track:

• Vehicle movement
• Pedestrian behavior
• License plate activity
• Real-time incident alerts

🚨 Immediate Results—and National Recognition

In the first week alone, the system helped identify a vandal targeting the historic Ironworks facility. Since then, it has improved:

The project also gained coverage from Fox 26 Houston, KHOU 11, Click2Houston, and was highlighted in Congressional safety updates, thanks in part to a $2M grant from the Federal Railroad Administration.
